Hi, for some reason I watched the Game Awards. Unlike most people I see who mainly play old games and indie stuff, I still deeply care for AAA gaming. This care may be some sort of Stockholm Syndrome situation.. "we had Red Dead 2, things can't be that bad!" I often say to myself. 'Well, I haven't played it yet but Death Stranding was cool.. and BG3 was amazing!' things of that sort. Well the thing is I watched the 5 or 6 hours of the show in its entirety. I won't even pretend to care about the Awards because it's clear the show itself doesn't care and I have not played ANYTHING that was nominated except Balatro which is pretty good.. let's talk about some announcements I thought were cool in NO PARTICULAR ORDER.
I like the Witcher games. In fact I liked the Witcher games so much that not only I played through the three of them back to back to back, I didn't allow myself to play critical darling expansion 'Blood & Wine' before reading the books because that would mean running out of The Witcher (I don't care about the TV show). The series was very fun, it reminded me why my pre-teen self was so obsessed with fantasy literature. I admit it's been a few years and I'm curious what I would think about the series today but they have a special place in my heart. This was before Cyberpunk 2077 released, of course. I still haven't played it. I have to and one day I will. I really mean it when I say I NEVER had been as disappointed with a game at the time. Well, the Witcher 4 is here and I'm.. excited. Yes, I never learn, but fuck, they seemed to have fixed the whole Cyberpunk thing and they wouldn't dare do that AGAIN, right? right? hahaha...
I'm hyped about playing with Ciri, my main problem with the Witcher games is that they were too straight. I might check out the books soon, I'm in the mood for some pulp-y light reading.
What? What? What? Is it a rogue-lite? A Co-op Elden Ring Roguelite???? Is this a response to the mainstream success of Elden Ring worldwide leading dudes galore to loudly shout how cool it would be to play Elden Ring with their bros? Is this a Dark Souls 2: Scholar of the First Sin situation? I don't know. As someone who pretty much has never cared about the combat PvP/Co-Op aspects of the Dark Souls series, this doesn't look very much like my jam. Despite this it is the game that I have thought most about these past few hours. I just don't understand it!! It will probably be good tho, It's Fromsoft. It will be at minimum a fun time.
I have not much to say other than I REALLY need to get on the Yakuza games and I'm glad to see Sega going strong still. I like that they care for old IP's and that they have learned to adapt to a modern climate. I like Sega games. One thing I'll say tho: WHAT IS GOING AT AT RGG? HOW MANY GAMES ARE THESE PEOPLE MAKING? I don't know. I'm afraid to know.
First of all: I thought it was funny that Geoff introduced a sequel to an underperforming cult classic PS2 game as if it were Half-Life 3. Well, I haven't played Okami. I really want to one day. The thing is, Clover is back. This show had so much PS2 stuff in it, Onimusha is back too... GOD HAND? I pray, dear reader, oh how I pray...
Remember this: The PS2 is back. PSX nostalgia is taking a step back as the era of the PS2 revival begins. Persona 5/3R, DQ XI, Armored Core, Hi-Fi Rush and Sekiro already showed us that people YEARN for the PS2 action game and the PS2 RPG. I say we give it to them. I say that because I'm people.
THANK GOD THEY LET THESE PEOPLE MAKE A NEW GAME! There was once a time where I wanted to play The Last of Us. I still will because its cultural importance to understanding modern gaming but FUCK I'M TIRED OF SEEING THAT GAME. It's the new Skyrim! THESE PEOPLE ARE GOOD AT MAKING GAMES, LIKE REALLY GOOD, IT'S COOL THAT THEY ARE MAKING SOMETHING NEW. I like the 80's retro-futurism vibe, it's a bit corny but I just can't help liking a good ol' CRT display in space.
Here at DISC TWO dot net we are going to do an in detail written replay of the OG FF7 for the PSX soon. The news of FF7 Rebirth arriving to PC so soon tempts me to do the same with it towards the second half of 2025. I like FF7 Remake. I like it almost as a distinct thing from FF7 OG. It's like a whole different worse but still good thing. Maybe I just like Aerith too much. Scratch that, one can not love Aerith ENOUGH. I've been cursed to play any game featuring her and it's too late to go back. This means one day I'll play Crisis Core.. this means one day I'll play.. Kingdom Hearts.
Yeah, this was just a nice short post to order my thoughts on what we saw. To be honest the biggest thing for me is an added 1% chance to GOD HAND 2 happening. My thoughts on the VGA's and what they mean for the industry would take an entire post I DON'T want to make, in summary: FUCK GEOFF KEIGHLEY.
