These past few days I took a break from updating the site and my Grandia Game Journal due to some health stuff (Don't worry, I'm fine). I took this resting time to give myself an early christmas game present. I chose Hitman because I was in the mood for some light-story, immersive sim kind of game. Also recent events have made the premise of 'Rich person Offing Sim' particularly enticing. I played through the tutorial missions and was instantly hooked by the 'hiding in plain sight' approach to stealth the game seemed to encourage. Then I hit the first proper level: 'The Showstopper'. It took me over 15 hours of gameplay to start the second level. Let's talk about that a bit.
Hi, for some reason I watched the Game Awards. Unlike most people I see who mainly play old games and indie stuff, I still deeply care for AAA gaming. This care may be some sort of Stockholm Syndrome situation.. "we had Red Dead 2, things can't be that bad!" I often say to myself. 'Well, I haven't played it yet but Death Stranding was cool.. and BG3 was amazing!' things of that sort. Well the thing is I watched the 5 or 6 hours of the show in its entirety. I won't even pretend to care about the Awards because it's clear the show itself doesn't care and I have not played ANYTHING that was nominated except Balatro which is pretty good.. let's talk about some announcements I thought were cool in NO PARTICULAR ORDER.
I was once a JRPG hater. Well, to be fair, I was a hater of any turn based RPG. Today they are my favorite genre. Believe it or not there was once a time where I thought SKYRIM to be a better game than, say, Earthbound. There were of course reasons for this, most of them are unrelated to the JRPG's. Most of them related to the fact that I was an insecure and influenceable queer kid growing up in extremely toxic social environments around the time where the modern cringe culture was starting to take the shape we recognize today. This post is about those experiences, but more importantly is about how I learned to love the genre.
This is a long one, if you get through it I'd love to hear other's experiences with getting into the JRPG genre. Post in chat or shoot me an email at hellodisctwo@gmail.com, I'd really love to hear about it!!
After a long hiatus in which I made a 50 minute video that I took down (story for another time) DISC TWO is BACK!
The reason why it took me so long to update this site is simple: I'm having a cartoonishly surreal year. However, without fear of disappointing our most nosy of readers, this is not the subject of this post. This post is about why I've decided to spend time working on other projects to bring this site back.
